This intensive full-day, landscape design workshop is your opportunity to learn the theory and basic principles of sustainable landscape design and how to avoid the landscape design mistakes that are commonly made by novices and professionals alike.  Historically offered as an in-person workshop, we have worked hard to create a compelling online offering as an alternative in response to the challenges associated with COVID-19.  The curriculum is comprehensive and focuses on the landscape design process in a logical, step-by-step fashion to introduce the basic principles of sustainable landscape design and includes a sequence of real-world, landscape-specific exercises to provide opportunities to put pencil to paper and apply the landscape design principles and techniques that are discussed during the workshop.  Without a doubt, spring and the principles learned during this informative workshop should get your creative juices flowing as you consider the exciting possibilities for your home landscape.

Julie Weisenhorn holds master's degrees in visual communications and horticulture from the University of Minnesota where she taught landscape design and later served as Extension Master Gardener state director. In her role as an Extension Horticulturist, Julie has statewide responsibility for horticulture education with special focus on plant selection and sustainable landscape design and serves on the Minnesota Department of Agriculture Noxious Weed Advisory Committee and the MN Nursery and Landscape Association education and certification committee. She writes for the Extension Yard & Garden website and Yard & Garden News and regularly appears on the popular WCCO Smart Gardens radio show. In her own words, “This is the best job I’ve ever had.”
