On this international Fascination with Plants Day, let’s talk ligularia with one of our favorite international friends, Mary Maguire Lerman! Ligularias (Leopard Plants) are the perfect focal points and architectural points for a shady, moist garden. Compatible with Astilbes, Rodgersias, Siberian Iris, Sedges and Royal and Cinnamon Ferns. These large, colorful plants provide splashes of color with their attractive foliage. Their yellow/orange daisy blooms in mid to late summer will attract butterflies.

Mary graduated from the University of MN with a degree in Horticultural Science and immediately began working at Como Conservatory. In 1976 she was hired away by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, where she worked for 32 years as the horticulturist: designing, directing, and expanding garden operations, creating the naturalist program at the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden, initiating the invasive species removal programs (Buckthorn Mary) and working for five years with state agencies to get buckthorn declared a restricted noxious weed in Minnesota to prevent any further propagation or sale.
